Various Artists – ‘A Slight Disturbance In My Mind’ (Cherry Red/Grapefruit)

As a person who has been, at times, accused of living in the past with their music taste, the idea of a thee-disc, approaching four-hour compilation of neo-psych from the heady days of the ’50s and ’60s sounds ideal to our resident gigaholic. Add in some better-known artists to some that were previously unknown to the big lad – he’s not quite 40, after all – and it seemed like a good chance to expand my knowledge of those times.

Nekrogoblikon/Harbinger/For I Am King/Footprints In The Custard – Manchester, Rebellion – 12 January 2020

It sounds like what it is; high quality metal recorded by seasoned professionals who still love their chosen genre and want everyone involved to have a good time. So, while it’s only early January, there’s a real risk that we’ve already heard one of 2020’s most enjoyable records.

Wage War/DED/Thornhill – Manchester, Rebellion – 10 January 2020

His first gig of the year in 2020 sees Jase Walker returning to one of hisregular haunts in Manchester, Rebellion. To say he was a bit excited about this gig is a complete understatement as both Wage War and Thornhill released two of his favourite albums of 2019 and he’d been itching to hear more stuff from both of them. Bringing along a band he wasn’t previously familiar with, DED, this will definitely be a show that promised to blow the Christmas cobwebs off our resident Mancunian in spectacular fashion.
