THE ÜBER ROCK SINGLES CLUB – MARCH MADNESS (PART FIVE)

F*CK. WE’RE BROKEN. Well, almost. Yes, it’s been one helluva month here at ÜRHQ, what with it managing to cram in five weekends… yes, you read that right: FIVE BIG MASSIVE MUTHAFUCKIN’ ROCKIN’ ‘N’ ROLLIN’ WEEKENDS! In one month. HELL, it should be more than the body can take… or should be allowed to take… but, hey, we’re rock ‘n’ roll to the core and it takes no excuse for us to fire up the deathdecks, turn the amps up to maximum, mix up a few of our favourite cocktails and set some of the hottest sounds around a spinnin’ for your delectation and enjoyment. So, in the immortal words of da bruvas – hey, ho, let’s go…

The Über Rock Singles Club – February’s Femmes Fatales (Part Two)

Well, it’s Valentines weekend and we could think of no better occasion to share our love and appreciation of the many highly talented, individual and distinct female talents who bring light into the darkest recesses of the otherwise (sadly) male-dominated rock ‘n’ roll Überverse with the second in this special two-part feature which focuses on just a very small part of the massive contribution our femmes fatales make to the music that we all love…

Steelhouse Festival – Aberbeeg, Hafod-y-Dafal Farm – 29 July 2023

It is a mark of Steelhouse’s stature as one of ÜR’s favourite festivals that it is one of the very rare occasions when your HQ team bite the bullet, max out the collective credit cards and traverse the singular most expensive of water in the Überverse for a weekend of classic rock as delivered by some of the finest exponents of the genre, both old school and new breed alike. And so it was that, this past weekend, Monk and DQ once again braved that long and winding path to the top of the mountain, hooked up with a tonne of old friends and basked in whatever the (in)glorious Welsh weather chucked at them for three days of quality rock ‘n’ roll action…

The Über Rockin’ Guide To… Steelhouse’s Saturday Shenanigans

It is a mark of Steelhouse’s stature as one of ÜR’s favourite festivals that it is one of the very rare occasions when your HQ team bite the bullet, max out the collective credit cards and traverse the singular most expensive of water in the Überverse for a weekend of classic rock as delivered by some of the finest exponents of the genre, both old school and new breed alike. And so it is that, in exactly four weeks time, Monk and DQ, along with our resident Valleys correspondent, once again will be climbing that long and winding path to the top of the mountain, hooking up with a tonne of old friends and basking in whatever the (in)glorious Welsh weather chucks at them for three days of quality rock ‘n’ roll action…

VIDEO OF THE WEEK – THE DAMN TRUTH

As the rays of light at the end of the dark tunnel that has been the past 14 months of isolation and generally being shit upon from great heights grow brighter day by day, the rock ‘n’ roll year that is 2021 has somehow crept, crawled and sneaked closer to its halfway point, with its DMs firmly planted in the mire and muck of the chaos around it, with a healthy slew of new music pinging itself our way, and especially the continuing tsunami of submissions we receive for our coveted ‘Video Of The Week’ award… Yes, as we’ve said on multiple occasions, one constant throughout the vagaries of inconsistent and often hard to stomach lockdowns is the amazing level of adaptive creativity that bands and video directors the length and breadth of the Überverse have continued to show, often in the most adverse of circumstances.

The Damn Truth – ‘Now Or Nowhere’ (Spectra Music/Sony Music)

Like so many hundreds, nay thousands, of other bands, the onset of the global Covid pan(dem)ic stopped Montreal retro-rockers The Damn Truth dead in their tracks. They were two-thirds of the way through recording this, their third album, with legendary producer Bob Rock at the helm, when they decided to take a break from the process, which was taking place in Vancouver, and return to their home city to recharge their batteries… then, BOOM, the world went into lockdown. The band initially considered releasing the six songs they had already completed as an EP, before casting that idea aside and, displaying the DIY ethic that had helped them reach this stage of their burgeoning career, decided to finish the damn thing (sic) themselves, with the help of hometown producer Jean Masciotte.
