VIDEO OF THE WEEK: FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE
Our latest selection is a suitably epic declaration by Italian symphonic death metallers Fleshgod Apocalypse, who are contrarily proclaiming that they can can never die with this preview of what we can expect from their upcoming sixth studio album.

“The Twelfth”, as it is known in the tiny corner of the Uberverse we call home, is best known for bands of a different variety, but it seems somewhat inanely appropriate that Monk should choose a band from just down the road from ÜRHQ as my latest pick of the pops, as this veggie punk quartet from the town that also birthed the highly over-rated Snore Patrol feed us some #LeafyGreens with their latest tasty dish.

Currently ripping up stages across the Über Kingdom with their frenetic live shows, this multi-cultural trio now regale us with the feverishly delivered latest instalment in their loose series of concept videos.

We’re on the comeback trail with our latest selection, the first new song from these Californian alt rockers in a little more than three years, which sees them return to clarion-calling, defiant action with this declarative return, an insightful commentary on paranoia run amok, all the while cutting through frivolity and aiming straight for the gut, churning hard-to-swallow topics into satisfying digestible ‘bangers such as this unapologetically classic retro pop punk offering:

My latest audio-visual treat comes blastin’ at y’all from the sleazy back alleys of Hollywood, where these punk revolutionists are revive a career that actually started a quarter of a century ago by taking us deep into the true life world of a #WhiteTrashGirl with their what is actually their debut single and lead track from their upcoming first album, the brilliantly and superbly appropriately titled ‘As Filthy As We Wanna Be’, due to come blastin’ out of our death decks later this year.

Monk’s latest hot off the presses choices comes from a Belfast combo he first came across just a hiccough of a few short weeks ago, when he was invited to step outside of his normal musical comfort zone and check out an alternative side of his home city’s music scene.

My latest selection comes from an artist defiantly proud of doing things her own way and saying what she wants to say, in the most impactful way possible.

Tick, tock. Tick, tock. Or should that be tik tok, tik tok? Our latest audio-visual feast comes from Northern Ireland hard rockers Maverick, who make it third time lucky with the latest in the series of monthly single releases in the lead up to that of their fifth studio album.

You could say it’s a case of “three, two, one” with this week’s selection. It is the third single to be issued from Finnish classicists Apocalyptica’s forthcoming new album, which sees them turning the circle by once again delving into the back catalogue of the band who inspired them to meld classical music and heavy metal into a uniquely homogeneous whole. It is also their second successive single to win our coveted #VideoOfTheWeek accolade. And it is their suitably epic and grandiose re-interpretation of the iconic songs, not only in Metallica’s canon but also that of the entire heavy metal genre: ‘ONE’.

The Northern Ireland scene has been very much at the forefront of our thoughts this past week, mainly due to this year’s epic Bloodstock Metal 2 The Masses competition drawing to an equally epic conclusion (more on that elsewhere on the site). Two of the competitors – Armagh antagonists Astralnaut and Belfast bruisers The Boat Sank – featured as Singles Club daily picks, and so it is perhaps appropriate that our latest audio-visual treat comes from a previous winner of the contest, in the form of County Down demolition mob Lock Horns, who are taking things down to the bare ‘Skin And Bones’ with this second taster of their forthcoming sophomore album.
Read MoreVIDEO OF THE WEEK – DAL AV & DAEDRIC
The theme of this weekend at ÜRHQ seems to be collaboration, as my latest audio-visual treat comes from another conjoining of forces, this time in form of dark synthwave industrialists Daedric and modern metallers Dal Av, who are #RacingTheParallel with this futuristic new offering, which comes complete with a suitably ‘Blade Runner’-inspired cyberpunk-style video:

Monk’s latest choice of audio-visual treat comes from German glam rock revivalists Kissin’ Dynamite who, after inviting us to ‘Raise A Glass’ now address their inner monsters with the second in the series of thematically-linked clips offered up as tasters for their forthcoming new album, on which they are determined to prove they are definitely, and defiantly, ‘Back With A Bang’…
