Bloodstock – Catton Hall, Derbyshire – 13 August 2021
Rich H should probably preface the Friday line-up by mentioning he and his party already a bottle of whiskey in them by the time Divine Chaos finished their main stage set. But then, when you can gorge on a buffet of technical riffs and snarls, how else can you start the third day of a festival off? There’s already been some optimal thrash offerings at Bloodstock long before the main stage ever opened, but Divine Chaos feel like a whole new breed of nasty brilliance. Taking their cues from this side of the millennium, the band take off like a rocket and give the perfect introduction to get us all in the party mood…

The gods of grindcore, Napalm Death’s near four-decade career has seen them grow into one of the most revered names in the global extreme metal canon. Rightfully regarded as one of the most legendary bands within the extreme metal spectrum, Napalm Death still continue to astound with the sheer variety and unpredictability of the music they produce. It’s been a long wait for new material since 2015’s furious ‘Apex Predator – Easy Meat’, and though the band are in full swing for a new touring cycle this year they aren’t yet ready to put out a full release, opting instead for the 7” ‘Logic Ravaged By Brutal Force’. Spread across just two tracks, the band take a decided left turn into almost post-punk melody on the title track, sounding decidedly more Killing Joke than their usual snarl would entail.
