Hands Off Gretel/Air Drawn Dagger/FUS – Sheffield, The Leadmill – 7 September 2021

Arriving at Sheffield’s iconic, and sold out, Leadmill, you couldn’t help but notice the wide range of audience members that would be attending the Hands Off Gretel gig that night in the fast growing queue. The old and the young, the misfits and the outcasts, the passionate alternative music lovers and young bands such as Blood-Stained Reputation; all eagerly awaiting the doors as they shared the excitement of seeing the band that brought them together.

Steelhouse Festival – Ebbw Vale, Hafod Y Dafal Farm – 23-25 July 2021

As a general rule of thumb, Steelhouse Festival is full of people who have been attending since 2010. The performance of lateral flow tests and the year delay was not going to dampen the spirits of some of the hardiest festival goers in the ÜK. At over 1000 feet above sea level, on a farm that serves as a good site for wind turbines, it doesn’t take too much imagination to realise it’s going to be windy and open. Punters were queuing on the road from 10.15am, with the gates not opening ‘til midday. However, it was hard not to spot anyone in the crowd who didn’t have a grin as wide as the valleys below. The ability to recognise people from the nose to the chin helped as they weren’t covered in facemasks. This helped restore a semblance of normality.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK – TORCHIA

We had a bit of a helping hand when it came to choosing our latest ‘Video Of The Week’, as our 11-year old grand-daughter was staying over at ÜRHQ, and she decided it would be a cool idea to make her first contribution to the site. And, so, down she sat and watched each and every one of the 70-odd videos that had come our way over the past seven days, initially whittling them down to down to a shortlist of ten entries and then agreeing our final selection.

Lauren Tate – ‘Songs For Sad Girls’ (Trash Queen Records)

Lauren Tate will be familiar to many loyal and attentive ÜR readers as the face and voice of Yorkshire grunge punks Hands Off Gretel, who have graced these very pages on many occasions and never once failed to poke all the right rock ‘n’ roll buttons as far as we are concerned. Now, she has proven once again that she has plenty to say, and extremely loudly, but this time outside the confines of the band, with her latest solo offering – and what a fucking gem of an album it is: one which definitely, and defiantly, screams to be heard by every self-respecting punk ‘n’ roller in this hoary old Überverse…
