We get a lot of album submissions here at Über Rock, from a variety of artists, so when something comes in that is labelled for fans of Frank Zappa, Tool, Primus and other such Progressive luminaries, it will naturally catch my eye. Canadian outfit Dizzy Mystics did just this with their debut release ‘Wanderlost’. Quite some billing to live up to and one that many bands try for and fail – would DM be the latest act to aspire beyond their current reach?

The Pilgrim – ‘Walk Into The Forest’ (Heavy Psych Sounds)

Gabrielle Fiori is a name known to our resident psyche buff; from his Black Rainbows band that I saw recently at the Heavy Psych Sounds festival in London, to owning and running the Heavy Psych Sounds label, as well as being involved in Killer Boogie, he’s a man who obviously has very little free time to himself. Still enough, though, that he has decided to create a solo project, titled The Pilgrim. This debut release as The Pilgrim is an acoustic garage rock style affair, which brings its own intricacies and tribulations.

Broken Empire – ‘Fractures’ EP (Self-Released)

Oxford-based Broken Empire originally came together in 2017 as three instrumentalists, before making the highly sensible decision to add vocalist and rhythm guitarist Ieuan Owen to their ranks to take their material to the next level. Now, with this, their second EP release in little more than a year, they are seeking to do the same with their career – and, to be honest, this is not a bad presentation of their collective and individual skills.
