A mere 40 years into their career, Nine Below Zero are still churning out some good old fashioned rhythm ‘n blues to this day, with latest effort ‘Avalanche’. They have amassed a cult following across the duration of their career and this album is a good example of why, with strong male and female vocals backed by more than adequate musicians.

Bitch Queens – ‘City Of Class’ (LuxNoise)

This is the kind of thing that John B thinks of when he thinks punk rock. Sure, there are heavier punk albums out there. There are some albums that are more technically complex. There plenty that are more rebellious or shocking with their subject matter. All of these are things we often hear in punk and are all great but to our man, but as far he is concerned it is not what punk is about. The most important thing with punk is that it is fun. ‘City Of Class’ is definitely fun.

Gary Numan/Kanga – Liverpool, O2 Academy – 30 September 2019

A local Liverpool gig for once sees our resident gigaholic move from the headbanging frenzy of last weekend’s Doom vs Stoner festival into somewhat ’80s territory, with new wave/synth pop pioneer Gary Numan a couple of nights in to his (R)evolution 40th anniversary tour. An hour 40 minutes of sheer alternative electronica goodness to come, it’s almost always a good night at his shows.
