Chosen by Monk
We may be only a week into the new rock ‘n’ roll year, but we had a surprising number of videos come our way – almost 60 of them in fact – vying for the coveted title and virtual gong of being named our first favourite selection of 2022…
Believe me, we do watch all of the submissions, and a lot of them are of an extremely high quality, but there can only ever be one winner… And, to that end, this week’s selection is as dank and dark as the January nights, yet also offers a beacon of hope for brighter times ahead. It is the highly atmospheric and dankly realized clip which accompanies ‘Two Towers’ by New Jersey deathcore sextet Fit For An Autopsy, released as the fourth taster for their forthcoming new album, ‘Oh What The Future Holds’, which in turn is being released via Nuclear Blast this coming Friday (14 January).
Despite it’s rather Tolkien-esque title – or perhaps in common with it – the song is a portrayal of a deeper, more personal, inner conflict, as the band explained:
“Conceptually, [it]is an abstract story which follows the journey of your past self and future self, and the forces that pull them apart,” the band explains. “Realizing the impossible concept of them meeting, one is faced with the reality of accepting the things you cannot change. It’s a little out of the box for us, but it was challenging and fun to create a unique song for the record. Shout out to director Frankie Nasso and his team for the animated video that brought this story to life.”
The resulting video is beautifully extrapolated, and brilliantly encapsulates the inner pathos of the song:
