We continue to receive a veritable tsunami of video clips – another 100+ of them in the past week alone – being sent our way in a bid to be the latest recipient of the coveted title and virtual gong of being named our favourite…
Believe me, we do watch all of the submissions, and, apart from those which don’t meet our criteria – i.e., no lyric videos, no straight performance clips and no “playthroughs” – most of them are of an extremely high quality, but there can only ever be one winner… And, to that end, this week’s selection comes from Glaswegian metalcore-meets-NWoBHM mob DVL, who are embracing their love of horror movies with the first in a trilogy of videos from their forthcoming new album, the ironically titled ‘Hush’, due for release next month. This lead single kicks off the story, which will developed over the course of the two remaining videos, of one man’s obsession of seeking a deal with the devil… A deal for what? Well, we’ll just have to watch and see, shan’t we!
The videos also echo the album’s overarching concept, as it made up of a series of short stories that reflect on modern society. Each song tells a different tale, with some lyrics leaning towards fantasy and others possibly too close to unmasking the truth, all tied together by one overarching concept based on mental health. Thematically, the album deals with how we deal with mental health as individuals and how society perceives it as well as interferes with it. Self-sabotage, the self-destructive society that we live in, sleep deprivation, religion being used as a form of manipulation, as well as personality disorders. Sounds like a lot of fun!
