Perturbator/HEALTH – Manchester, Academy 2 – 16 November 2022

Evidently, Jase W absolutely zero sympathy for his own levels of exhaustion as he had just got back from a week away in the Netherlands and followed it up with an evening of mind blisteringly heavy darksynth. Perturbator’s delayed ‘Excess’ tour is finally here with HEALTH, who blew our resident gigaholic away earlier this year at Manchester’s White Hotel, in support. Sadly for the ÜK leg of the tour, Author & Punisher will not be joining which Jase was a bit gutted about – but he can’t have it his way all the time we suppose!

Carpenter Brut/Sierra – Manchester, Academy 2 – 4 November 2022

Carpenter Brut are one of Jase W’s “never miss” bands, both in always seeing them when they’re live in the ÜK but also consistently writing some of the best *heavy* synthwave around. Fusing metal, synthwave and ’80s B-movie horror into their live show, it’s quite the experience to say the least; they were touring in support of their ‘Leather Terror’ album this time round and bringing Sierra along for the ride.

Perturbator – ‘Lustful Sacraments’ (Blood Music)

DJ Astrocreep always finds it immensely interesting to hear when an artist takes a big step in a different direction from where their previous musical work has been, as in the case of Perturbator. Joywave – ‘Possession’ (Hollywood Records)

Joywave are someone Jase Walker got to see a while back supporting PVRIS in Manchester’s Gorilla venue and left quite an impression on our man with their stylish synthpop music. They announced part way through the set amongst other things that they had a forthcoming album and our bai felt quite privileged in that je was the one tasked to review it!

L.A. Takedown – ‘Our Feeling Of Natural High’ (Castle Face)

While he’s still a relatively new contributor here at Über Rock, it seems Jase Walker pigeon-holed himself a small bit for having a bit of a thing for anything remotely synthy; and in our defence we’re not wrong. So, when something lands in our review box that’s labelled as “guitar driven synth pop”, our boy is all over that, which is what brought L.A. Takedown’s ‘Our Feeling of Natural High’ to his attention…
