The Über Rock Singles Club Daily Pick – Mest
Monk’s final selection of the week comes from pop punk veterans Mest, and also is our second collaboration to be featured in as many days, as they team up with the living legend that is Jaret Reddick to look back on the days ‘When We Were Young’ on the lead single from their forthcoming new album, ‘Youth’.

Well, it’s that time of year, isn’t it? You know the one… when we’re supposed to be nice to people we spend the rest of the year moaning about behind their backs, stuffing our faces with over-priced party snacks and drinking far too much egg nog and rum punch… Well, we must have been at the latter already, because we’ve decided to bring you a special Christmas edition of the Singles Club, with a selection of some of the rock ‘n’ roll flavoured seasonal musical (and, in some cases, not so lustrous) gems currently doing the rounds. Put it this way: if we’ve had to endure listening to them, then we’re sure as feck gonna make sure you have to do so too…

Earlier this week, Bowling For Soup made up for forsaking the loyalty of their fans on the island of Ireland by playing back-to-back sold-out shows in Belfast and Dublin. And, of course, it is not the first time that the two band leaders have collaborated: live, they usually play a song together, they released an album called ‘One Big Happy’, and a subsequent 7” on which they covered each other’s songs, and most recently recorded a duet called ‘Love Ya Love Ya Love Ya’. And it was after performing the latter at London’s infamous Roundhouse during BFS’s 2016 UK tour that the pair decided to lay down an album of original duets… now, three years later, we have the result.

Having managed to somehow skip an edition earlier this month, the Singles Club returns with a bumper selection of goodies to wrap up this unseasonably warm February. As usual, we had literally hundreds of submissions during the past few weeks, which Monk has whittled down to the baker’s dozen that have tickled both his aural and visual cortexes.
