We’re not sure how many people realized how special this billing was, marking as it did a reunion of sorts… Not only were melodic thrashers Ketos returning to the stage for their first headline show in what seemed like donkey’s years, but they were sharing it with a band whom their vocalist also fronted for several years.

It had been more than a few hot minutes since we had reunited the ÜRHQ tag team and climbed the hallowed stairs of our favourite venue, but what better excuse to take a trip into the darkened heart of Belfast city’s back streets than this promisory note of a double bill, headlined by one of the most exciting young bands I have heard in a long time, making their first venture across the Irish border to the northern capital.

Realistically, Delusional Silence should need no introduction to Northern Irish rock and metal fans as, in the pre-Covid era, they were one of the fastest rising, and hardest working, bands in this particular corner of the Überverse, their taut live performances quickly establishing them as fan favourites no matter where they appeared on a bill… But, just as they were building some serious momentum, the pandemic hit and stopped the entire world dead in it’s tracks. It’s Halloween. The night when the ghouls come out to play. And the blood-soaked schoolgirls. And the bananas (although, to be fair, that’s most nights in Belfast city centre!). But, what better night for Belfast resident horror punks to launch their brand new, ÜR-approved, second album, released on this very same day? It’s also “Freedom Night”, the first on which the remaining restrictions on Northern Ireland’s pubs and clubs have been lifted – just a full four months after the rest of the Über Kingdom – and so the whole place is going buck daft with excitement and for the first time in seemingly forever we are greeted with the sight of a queue stretching halfway down the street for this, the first full-capacity, fully-standing gig to be held in Belfast since March 2020.
