Death Valley Girls – ‘Under The Spell Of Joy’ (Suicide Squeeze)

Reading the press info on this latest album from dystopian glam punks DVG, John B had a feeling that he would like this album, but even with that expectation he was not prepared for how good this album actually is. It is so unique while still having a very solid grounding. Sometimes when an artist tries something that is a little out there, things get lost for the listener. JB doesn’t find any issue like that here. In fact what he hears is an album that is extremely well grounded in a few existing styles combined in unique ways that make ‘Under The Spell Of Joy’ one of his favourite albums he has heard this year. Blue Öyster Cult – ‘The Symbol Remains’ (Frontiers)

Blue Öyster Cult fans have been spoiled with numerous releases over the past year since the band hooked up with Frontiers Music. Three live albums – ‘Hard Rock Live Cleveland 2014’, ‘40th Anniversary – Agents Of Fortune – 2016’ and ‘45th Anniversary Live In London’ all came out this year, as well as welcome reissues of the ‘Heaven Forbid’ and ‘Curse Of The Hidden Mirror’ albums from the late ‘90s/early ‘00s, which were getting pretty hard to get hold of. Now comes another big one – a brand new studio album ‘The Symbol Remains’, the first from BÖC since the ‘Hidden Mirror’ album in 2001.

The Über Rock Singles Club – Autumn Awesomeness (Part One)

It’s hard to believe it’s been a fortnight since the Singles Club opened its virtual doors and we fired up the death decks with a selection of the finest single-track releases to have come our way in recent weeks. It’s hard to believe that it’s been seven whole days since we last awarded our coveted ‘Video Of The Week’ title, and, despite the ongoing, and some cases renewed, lockdowns in many parts of the Überverse, we are still receiving a healthy bundle of submissions for our coveted ‘Video Of The Week’ title.
