Chosen by Monk
We continue to receive a veritable tsunami of video clips – almost 120 of them in the past week alone – being sent our way in a bid to be the latest recipient of the coveted title and virtual gong of being named our favourite…
Believe me, we do watch all of the submissions, and, apart from those which don’t meet our criteria – i.e., no lyric videos, no straight performance clips and no “playthroughs” – most of them are of an extremely high quality, but there can only ever be one winner… And, to that end, this week’s selection is one that uses tongue-in-cheek humour, especially in its visual storyline, to deliver a very serious message.
It comes from Gothenburg power trio The Drippers, a turbo-rock outfit very much in the mien of fellow Scandirockers such as The Hellacopters, Gluecifer (who get an affectionate check in the video) and TGTBATZ. Their latest single, ‘No Stars’, is the third to be lifted from their second album, the appropriately titled ‘Scandinavian Thunder’, released in December past.
Frontman Viktor Skatt told us a little more about the anarchic clip which accompanies the song:
“[It] is loosely based on the song’s lyrics, which cover heavy subjects such as substance abuse and mental health from a close to psychotic first-person perspective. We wanted it to be creepy and a little random, so we just went with every stupid idea we had. Twin Peaks horror, fish egg spread carbonara, Dräpare drinks (a classic Swedish mix with vodka and Baileys) and the FORCE! It all fits in the chaotic rock ‘n’ roll nightmare that is The Drippers.“.”
