The Roozalepres – ‘The Roozelapres’ (Go Down Records)

John B would swear this album came out of the late ‘70s. It is absolutely a modern classic that would fit right in back then. It is a perfect blend of rock ‘n roll and old school punk. While each track can get a little more repetitive than he would normally like, it really fits with that classic style and is completely unoffensive. He could easily see many of these tracks being in movies especially in a scene where everyone is coming together to get something done. In his mind, he’s picturing a montosh of students passing out flyers or something. The specifics of the scene in his head are not important. The point is at some point we have all seen a scene like that in a movie or TV show and that kind of get hyped and get it done kind of attitude is well captured here.

Formosa – ‘Danger Zone’ (Metalville)

German power trio Formosa describe their style of hard rock as “music in a loincloth” – something not only connected with their stripped back style but also, apparently, due to their predilection for performing in the nude! To date, they have released two albums – with the rather inane titles of ‘Tight & Sexy’ and ‘Sorry For Being Sexy’, but are now entering the ‘Danger Zone’ of third album territory with their first release for the Metalville label…

August Burns Red – ‘Guardians’ (Fearless Records)

August Burns Red have been around for quite a while now, coming out of the woodwork in the metalcore boom around the late 2000s and are now a mainstay of the scene. Prior to this release, their previous record, ‘Phantom Anthem’, is one of Jase Walker’s outright favourite albums so getting to review this new release is something he jumped at the chance to do. This is their ninth studio album, which is no joke, these guys have been doing this a long time now so our man was eager to see how they’ve pushed themselves this time and kept it fresh.

Gaylord – ‘Wings Of The Joyful’ (Blackened Death Records)

John B reckons this one is “interesting”. The album is very clearly black metal and the band even describe themselves as “confrontational black metal” – and, while this all true, our man thought there were many aspects of the album that seem pretty optimistic. It is not the same dark just for the sake of being dark that we often hear in the genre but instead they seem to push the lines of the genre a little and end up creating a rather unique tone. JB was rather impressed by this because he was going into this thinking he knew what to expect but instead found myself pleasantly surprised.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK – TORCHIA

We had a bit of a helping hand when it came to choosing our latest ‘Video Of The Week’, as our 11-year old grand-daughter was staying over at ÜRHQ, and she decided it would be a cool idea to make her first contribution to the site. And, so, down she sat and watched each and every one of the 70-odd videos that had come our way over the past seven days, initially whittling them down to down to a shortlist of ten entries and then agreeing our final selection.
