Jupiter Hollow – ‘Bereavement’ (Self-Released)

Jonny B spent a bit of time in Toronto last year and happened to be there just before the annual Canadian Music Week, which ended up with some chance meetings with a wide variety of musicians. What this really highlighted is that Toronto is a real focal point for music in Canada, so it comes as little surprise that there is a wealth of artists who hail from what could be called Canada’s equivalent of “music city”. Clearly this was a neat little segue into the subject of this review, the prog rock/metal duo Jupiter Hollow who hail from, you guessed it, Toronto!

Chasing Ghosts – ‘Bring Me Suffering’ EP (Self-Released)

Sometimes a really sombre musical style just really hits home. There is so much emotion that can be wrapped up in music. That is what makes music so special. No one has ever had a favorite track that did not have some kind of emotional meaning to it. Sometimes it is just a good feeling like we get in a lot of dance and pop music these days. Lamb Of God – ‘Lamb Of God’ (Nuclear Blast)

Lesley Mac reckons that it’s the perfect time for US heavy metal masters Lamb Of God to emerge from the ether. After a five-year album hiatus, they return in the midst of worldwide political unrest, dissent and controversy to reinstate their dominance. With seven albums to their name already, the fact that the new release is self-titled is indicative of a self-assured identity. Yes, they may have toured with word renowned bands like Metallica and Slayer but they were co-headliners with Megadeth this year, are also Grammy Award winners and so the five-piece of Blythe (vocals), Morton (guitar),  Willie Adler (guitar), Campbell (bass) and Art Cruz on drums (replacing  founding member Chris Adler who left citing creative differences) are themselves a phenomenon not to be ignored.
