It could be argued that without Tigertailz there would be no Über Rock. The Welsh glam legends were one of the major influences on the sites founders, Gaz and Johnny, to start writing about the music on which they had grown up and loved to the extent that they felt it deserved wider recognition than the mainstream media were willing to give it… well, some 13 years down the glunk ‘n’ roll superhighway, we’re still championing the music that we love, without compromise and without excuse, kickin’ ass not kissin’ it… And the titanic ‘Tailz are still at it as well, as they prove with this latest, but not-so-new, single offering.
Like both of us, there have been a few changes along the journey on which the last decade or so has taken us, what with ÜR upping and moving from the picturesque Welsh valleys to the dirty ol’ back streets of Belfast and da Tigerz going through more drummers, singers and other personnel than the revolving door at our local Tesco has seen shoplifters. And the latest change is one which could be seen as quite radical, as the band step outside their hair metal comfort zone and into the mien of power metal with the addition of Power Quest/Dendera frontman Ashley Edison bringing the band’s latest incarnation to life in emphatic style, as the lineups debut release defiantly proves (but, we’ll come to that in a sec…).
TT founder Jay Pepper told us a bit more about the conjoining of apparent disparate metallic forces:
Some things should never happen, and yet when Ashley came to the studio and began singing ‘Sick Sex’, the mountains in Wales started to rumble, an earthquake was happening, and his voice was causing it! From that moment I knew people had to hear it. Ashley singing Tigertailz songs is like a jet engine running on nitroglycerin!
Edison added:
I am SO excited to be joining the legends in Tigertailz! A band that not only inspired so many but still put on a hell of a show! When I was with Jay singing ‘Sick Sex’, everything just felt right and fell into place perfectly! The guys have been so incredible to work with and I can’t wait to get going on some exciting future projects together!
Well, as you’ve probably guessed by now, that debut offering referred to above is a brand new version of the 32-year old ‘Tailz classic ‘Sick Sex’, which completes with a suitably reworked video clip which helps breathe as much new life into this classic ‘banger as the lineup themselves infuse… yes, the ‘Tailz are back.. but, then, like UR, they’ve never been away… just adapting to the times:
That’s probably our last ‘VOTW’ selection of 2022, what with a certain holiday period looming large on the horizon, but I’m sure you’ll agree we’ve gone out with a bang… or should that be a crash, bang, wallop? I dunno. I’m too punch drunk to care! Until next year, though, keep ‘er lit, keep ‘er between the hedges and keep on rockin’ with your favourite website \m/
