We’re now into the third month of the current rock ‘n’ roll year, and we continue to receive a veritable tsunami of video clips – almost 140 of them in the past week alone – being sent our way in a bid to be the latest recipient of the coveted title and virtual gong of being named our favourite… not the best, we stress, but our favourite…
Believe me, we do watch all of the submissions, and, apart from those which don’t meet our criteria – i.e., no lyric videos, no straight performance clips and no “playthroughs” – most of them are of an extremely high quality, but there can only ever be one winner… And, to that end, this week’s selection is one that, well, took me by complete surprise, as it comes from a band I don’t actually like… so much so, that I usually change the first half of their name to something that refers to the brown stuff that comes out of yer arse after a night on the rip topped off by a dodgy curry… Yes, I’m talking about divisive Florida alt-rockers Shite – sorry, Shinedown.
Even I have to admit that their latest single, the title track of their forthcoming new album, ‘Planet Zero’, which is due to impact (see what we did there?) on 22 April, is a declarative, emotional and important slice of social commentary mixed into a blend of impressive riffs, catchy melodies and accompanied by a powerful video clip that rams the song’s message home without any apology for doing so:
So, on that shocking note, until next time, keep ‘er lit, keep ‘er between the hedges and keep on rockin’ and rollin’ with your favourite website \m/
