Chosen by Monk
We had another massive wave of videos come our way this past week – a veritable tsunami of almost 150 of them – all vying for the coveted title and virtual gong of being named our favourite… Believe me, we do watch all of the submissions, and a lot of them are of an extremely high quality, but there can only ever be one winner…
And, to that end, this week’s selection marks a very special moment in time, as it is the first new music in 18 years from the legendary Jethro Tull. ‘Shoshana Sleeping’, which is trademark Tull through and through and is accompanied by a beautiful and eloquent visualization, is the first taste of the band’s new album, ‘The Zealot Gene’, which is due to be released at the end of January.
Tull’s equally legendary frontman, Ian Anderson, told us a bit more about the Biblical theme which permeates not just this song and video but also the new album as a whole:
“While I have a spot of genuine fondness for the pomp and fairytale storytelling of the Holy Book, I still feel the need to question and draw sometimes unholy parallels from the text. The good, the bad, and the downright ugly rear their heads throughout, but are punctuated with elements of love, respect, and tenderness.”
