Chosen by Monk
My latest selection is something of a double whammy for Bristol alt-rock trio Pollyanna Blue, as they find themselves in something of a ‘Daydream’ at being a #DailyPick for the second time in almost exactly as many months.
Following on from their declaration in February’ that they are ‘Strong Enough’ to face life’s travails, the band now take us on a journey deep into a haze of insomnia induced by a sudden withdrawal of caffeine and nicotine, a time when the line between daytime and nighttime starts to blur, making it harder to stay awake through the day and by night time feeling wide awake. Just like their music juxtaposes different musical influences and styles, the song lyrics do the same with the words daydream and nightmare, exploring how, over time, being lost in the former can up being the latter.
It was written by guitarist/vocalist Zoe Collins after she woke up disoriented late one afternoon feeling fed up, grabbed a guitar, lay in bed and was drawn to the chord progression, melody and lyrics which formed the basis of the song.
We can look forward to hearing much more from Pollyanna Blue as they prepare to release their second album later in the year.
