British heavy metal institution Saxon have stepped into the Saturday night headline slot at next month’s Steelhouse festival.
Former Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley had been booked to fill the slot, but unsurprisingly has now pulled out, citing “unforeseen circumstances”. The New York-born axe wielder has a history of booking and then cancelling ÜK festival performances, having pulled the same stunt with the Hard Rock Hell franchise on two occasions in the past. At least this time around he gave the event promoters more than a few days’ notice.
Saxon will play a 40th anniversary “greatest hits” set, which is sure to be a guaranteed crowd pleaser. They join a bill that also features Sunday headliners Europe, Friday bill-toppers Inglorious, Graham Bonnet performing the whole of Rainbow’s ‘Down To Earth’ album and Teutonic axe hero Michael Schenker, as well as a host of ÜR faves such as the Von Hertzen Brothers, Orange Goblin, Myke Gray, H.E.A.T, Black Spiders, Green Lung and Scarlet Rebels and many more.
