Fool’s Ghost – ‘Dark Woven Light’ (Prosthetic)

This one is a real change of pace for John B. He has lived in Kentucky for quite a while and when he heard the next album he was going to be reviewing was from his neck of the woods and was not metal he had no idea what to expect. There are some very specific stereotypes about music in Kentucky. After saying a few prayers that the album would not be country he pressed play. There would have been no way to prepare him for what he heard. This is so far out of the realm he is usually in that he cannot tell you what genre this is. The genre is not what is important though what does matter is that this album is good. It is really good!

Voidfire – ‘Ogień Pustki’ (Self-Released)

Polish four-piece Voidfire originally formed with the intention of creating a purely instrumental outlet. After working through a few ideas, the decision was made to expand the sound and incorporate vocals too. In terms of concept their music seeks to showcase artistic inspiration through emotional suffering. With an idea such as that it’s easy to see why they’ve chosen to go down the black metal route. However, while this is the clear genre path for Voidfire, they’ve also sought to incorporate a heavy dose of melodic drive into their work. The result is the six tracks forming this debut album.
