Red Method – ‘For The Sick’ (Depraved Records)
Formed from members of Meta-Stasis and The Defiled, Red Method have seemingly come out of nowhere straight into some quite high-profile shows and show absolutely zero signs of slowing down. Last week signalled the release of their debut album, ‘For The Sick’ with an incredibly comprehensive UK tour in support of this, they’ve every intention of really getting their name out and showing everyone that they mean business.

The Outlaws – ‘Dixie Highway’ (Steamhammer/SPV)
We’ll start this review with a history lesson, shall we? The Dixie Highway originally connected Chicago to Miami – the first vital thoroughfare between the Midwest and the South – before eventually being replaced in the late 1920s by the US Highway system. And while fragments of the original road still exist in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Ohio, it remains a route that carries echoes of its past as well as being an enduring symbol of American discovery, fortitude and pride. And it is this once well-trodden road which southern rock vets the Outlaws have chosen as the theme for this, their 13th studio album in their 45+ year career.

New Pagans – ‘Glacial Erratic’ (Self-Released)
New Pagans first came to the attention of the big lad known as Astrocreep when their PR sent in their latest music video for consideration for our ‘Video Of The Week’ feature, and his interest – and, indeed that of our chief pack mule Monk – was piqued. Seeing they are playing nearby later this week gave our resident gigaholic the perfect reason to check them out more, which led himto a very pleasant discovery indeed when checking out their Youtube channel…

Nils Patrik Johansson – ‘The Great Conspiracy’ (Metalville)
To be honest, Monk wasn’t at all sure what he was going to make of this album after he read the accompanying collateral. He’s a fan of Nils Patrik Johansson’s other projects – Astral Doors, Lion’s Share and Civil War – but this latest release sees him not only flying solo but also dealing, on a deeply personal level, with a subject that has intrigued him, and many of his fellow countrymen, for nearly his whole lifetime – and that is the many conspiracy theories which still exist around the assassination of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme in 1986.
