Bad Touch – ‘Kiss The Sky’ (Marshall Records)

‘Kiss The Sky’ is unbelievably the fourth album from Norfolk rockers Bad Touch.  Why does David O’Neill say unbelievably?  Because Iour valleys correspondent can’t believe these guys aren’t bigger than their current fanbase suggests.  Maybe this album will do it for them… it’s damn shame there’s a worldwide pandemic and lockdown of all live music to go with the release, but at least it will stick in the memory when it ends up with tracks playing on ‘The Planet Rock Years’ in years to come, because our man reckons that’s where it’s going to go…

Sinisthra – ‘The Broad And Beaten Way’ (Rockshots Records)

Finnish genre benders Sinisthra first crossed our paths last month, when the video for ‘Eterne’, the lead track from this, their second album, piqued our attention enough to earn it a runners-up slot in our ‘Video Of The Week’ feature. Now, it is perhaps not surprising that, despite this being their sophomore offering, and on a label with which we are very familiar, we had not come across the band before, given the fact that it has been a full 15 years since their debut offering saw the light of day, since when the band’s members have been busy concentrating on other projects, not least vocalist Tomi Joutsen, who should be familiar to our more metallic-minded readers as the erstwhile frontman of countrymen Amorphis.

Well, we didn’t say no and promptly dived straight into the groove of their debut four-track EP, which coupled those two previously released songs, ‘Smoke It Like A Cigarette’ and ‘Take A Bullet’, with their third single, ‘Momma Sang The Blues’, and a live session, ‘Ragdoll’.

Clutch/Crowbar/Blacktop Mojo/Saul – ‘Live From The Doom Saloon’ – 27 May 2020

It’s time for another lockdown live-stream gig, which Jonny B guesses is almost like the nicorette of the music world. It may go towards quelling the live music cravings but it’s still not quite the same! Nevertheless, here at ÜRHQ we’re continuing to make the best of what we can get, so JB was sent to the comfort of his own lounge to enjoy a gig with two bands he’s pretty familiar with, and another two who are completely new to him. Tonight is the aptly named “Doom Saloon” live event hosted by one of JB’s favourites – Clutch, with support from Crowbar, Blacktop Mojo and Saul, all for the incredibly reasonable price of $9, which is a bit of a steal really!
