Rotten River Blues Band – ‘Electrophant’ (Vandango Levyt)

The Rotten River Blues Band hail from the delta… the Mätäoja delta of southern Finland, that is. But sound could be as firmly rooted in the mudflats of the Mississippi as it is the swamps of the river from which they take their name, as the quartet mix the heavy psychedelia of New Orleans with the dense suvern blooze of the Louisiana bayou as easily as they do with the sleazier side of the rock ‘n’ roll spectrum for which their homeland is better known.

Wheels Of Fire – ‘Begin Again’ (Art Of Melody Music/Burning Minds Music)

‘Begin Again’ is something of an appropriate titled for this, the third album from Italian hard rockers Wheels Of Fire. Why? Well, it has been seven years since the release of their last opus, ‘Up For Anything’, and therefore it could be argued that this is very much a new start for the band, with three new members joining the core creative duo of Davide Barbieri and Stefano Zeni.

Disgraceland – ‘EP#1’ (Self-Released)

As its title suggests, this is the debut offering from Disgraceland. Now, the name of the band may be new to many, including bossman Monk, but those of two of its constituent members should be familiar to long-term ÜR readers, as frontman Ollie Stygall and drummer Foz previously were two-thirds of Grifter, who produced one of Monk’s favourite albums of 2011 and also one of the best-titled EPs ever, in the previous year’s ‘The Simplicity Of The Riff Is Key’.
