Æþelruna – ‘Risci Bita Wudu’ (Self-Released)

Æþelruna started in 2011 after the previous incarnation Adalruna ended. Where Adalruna was a celebration of pan-Germanic unity, Æþelruna focusses on pre-Christian English (or Anglo-Saxon) heritage, with most vocals being performed in Olde English by the sole member, Wulfhelm. Æþelruna started by releasing a single ‘On Modranihte’ in 2011 but is most known for a cover of the Burzum classic ‘Det Som Engang Var’ on the tribute album ‘Forsvunnet Filosofem’ in 2012. These tracks, along with several other demos and cover songs, were collected on the official compilation ‘Ealdgesegena’ in 2018.

Alter Bridge – ‘Pawns & Kings’ (Napalm Records)

Alt-rock superstars Alter Bridge are one of those bands which divide opinion, not least here at ÜRHQ, but also on both sides of the Atlantic, as they are more than capable of selling out some of Europe’s largest arenas, as their forthcoming dates in support of this, their seventh studio album in the 18 years since they rose from the ashes of the ill-fated Creed, demonstrates, while in their native ÜS they often play in venues a quarter of the size of their European/ÜK counterparts.

Taxi Caveman – ‘Galactic Slope’ (Interstellar Smoke Records)

Does anyone else ever remember that cartoon Captain Caveman? Well just like the eponymous character in that show, this caveman related band also got lost in time (and by time, we mean the depths of Jonny B’sinbox) but nevertheless, our man managed to dredge them up for a ride through the cosmos. JB may be a little late to the party but it’s never too late to kick back and relax with a bit of slow and steady stoner music to take the load off after a gruelling day of existing in this current climate. So he sat back in his comfy chair, paid his fare to the Taxi Caveman and settled in for half an hour of chilled vibes…
