Welcome to our latest ‘Video Of The Week feature, where it is my first opportunity since we launched its new look to try and whittle it down to the last few audio-visual contenders for the throne.
To kick things off, just nudging ahead of the competition to get their hands on our coveted trophy we have LA-based psych-gaze collective Tombstones In Their Eyes, with a laid back, melodic track that strongly evokes Pink Floyd’s ‘Another Brick In The Wall’ opus in its imagery. Musically, it would also fit with some of Pink Floyd’s more psych-orientated back catalogue, Kyuss or similar artists. ‘Another Day’ comes from the recently released full length, ‘Maybe Someday’:
Our next pick comes from blackened thrash newcomers Bonded, with ‘Suit Murderer’, taken from forthcoming debut album, ‘Rest In Violence’. The band feature some ex-Sodom members, whose influence can clearly be heard. Lyrically, it’s all about resisting and confronting the people trying to rule your life, while the music is a non-stop thrash attack:
Third up we have progressive alt-rock heavyweights Coheed & Cambria, back with new single ‘Toys’, which is a mix of their earlier post-hardcore and more alt-rock sensibilities, with a video entitled ‘An Unheavenly Christmas Carol’, which works well alongside the music and is certainly in keeping with the current holiday spirit!
Last, but not least, we have previous ‘Video Of The Week’ winners Baker’s Eddy, who are back with another tongue in cheek video for ‘On My Own’, marking a step towards the more melodic pop-punk side that celebrates the unabashed joy of embracing your inner-introvert in an otherwise crowded world.
