The Uber Rock Approved stampI may be biased, but Northern Ireland possesses some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere in the Überverse, and it is this which provides the backdrop to the clip that has grabbed our attention and hustled its way to the top of our list of our favourite videos released over the past seven days…

It comes from County Antrim-based indie-punk five-piece New Pagans, who are asserting that there most definitely are many more ‘Better People’ in the world than the dreary, drudge-filled primetime news media would have us believe.

Vocalist Lynsay Mcdougall told us a bit more about the song:

“[It] celebrates our ability as humans to pull together, create communities, and look after one another – [our] attempt to write a song that uplifts, gives hope, and just says you can be better.”

Written during the grip of socially isolated lockdown, ‘Better People’ began with Mcdougall celebrating the joy of music with her children. Realizing the playlist they’d created had an inter-generational hopeful appeal, Lyndsey and her band mates – guitarists Cahir O’Doherty and Allan McGreevy, bassist Claire Miskimmin and drummer Conor McAuley – set to writing their own new uplifting anthem, and have most definitely succeeded with this bright and breezy little ditty. As for the accompanying video? Well, it’s back over to Lyndsey:

“[It} was once again shot by our frequent collaborator and fellow folk horror fan Dave McIntyre on the rocky shores and heather filled landscapes of Malin Head. The stunning Irish backdrop speaks for itself: it’s free set design and if it’s there we use it. As always there’s a few sly references to our fav films in the video, and maybe a fellow film nerd will get them, but as for the plot: David Lynch said ‘never explain’.”

Until next time, as we say here in Norn Iron, keep ‘er lit, keep ‘er between the hedges and keep on rockin’ and rollin’ with your favourite website \m/
