We may be just six weeks into the new rock ‘n’ roll year, but we’ve already had a surprising number of videos already come our way – more than 100 of them in the past week alone – vying for the coveted title and virtual gong of being named our favourite… not the best, we stress, but our favourite…
Believe me, we do watch all of the submissions, and a lot of them are of an extremely high quality, but there can only ever be one winner… And, to that end, this week’s selection just grabbed me immediately, with its engrossing, hypnotic (and often disturbing) visuals matching the equally dense and entrancing sonic landscape painted by Swedish psyched-out proggies JIRM (formerly known by the rather clumsier moniker of Jeremy Irons and the Ratgang Malibus).
Both the video and the track, which clocks in at an epic seven minutes and is the opener to the band’s forthcoming fifth album, ‘The Tunnel, The Well, Holy Bedlam’, feature a towering and emphatic performance from frontman Karl Aplemo:
