Chosen by Monk
My latest selection comes from an artist defiantly proud of doing things her own way and saying what she wants to say, in the most impactful way possible.
‘Evil Hate Filled Female’, which takes its influence from an intended insult hurled her way on social media but which Delilah Bon – the alter-ego of Hands Off Gretel front woman Lauren Tate – has typically turned on its head and transformed into a resilient declaration and “fuck you” celebration of her individuality and sense of self-determination, is the title track of her forthcoming new album, due for release in September,
Tate says of the song, and the album as a whole:
It’s about becoming the villain you’re always made out to be…We aren’t these sweet and innocent little girls anymore, we are rage-filled and we are allowed to be angry. It’s about turning the tables on hate and reclaiming our power. We are truly in our villain era, and this album is our soundtrack.
- ‘Evil Hate Filled Female’ is released on 13 September.
