Artwork for Nothing Dramatic by TiradeNow and again, a release comes along that lives up to its name. ‘Nothing Dramatic’, the new EP from Cheshire (relatively) NKOTBs Tirade is just such a release: it’s not anything that breaks new ground or is going to set the world on the fire with the immediacy of a Brazilian politician with a flamethrower. What it is, however, is a solid slice of the sort of alt-rock that is practically guaranteed to bother the frequent play lists of certain online and cable radio stations.

Now, don’t get me wrong: I’m not being negative in any of the above comments. Because, although not straying too far from tried and tested formulae, ‘Nothing Dramatic’ is a collection of five catchier-than-clap rock ‘n’ roll tunes, and the band present them with plenty of energy and verve. Each of the songs is perfectly crafted, with all the right senses of harmony and melody, and great balances of light and shade, veering from heavy-hitting beatdowns, such as on the opening track, to moments of virtual pop punk inanity, such as on recent single ‘Burned Out’ and EP closer ‘Well Spent’.

‘Nothing Dramatic’ is a good, solid release of which its four creators can be justifiably proud. As I said, it’s not ground-breaking – but, it doesn’t need to be. What it does need to be is exactly what it is, and in that regard it’s job done as far as Tirade are concerned.
