The Uber Rock Approved stampDespite the numerous Covidications which we all have had to endure over the past 24 months, we have managed to keep the Singles Club up-and-running , in order to bring you the hottest new sounds around. And, I’m glad to say that, after a hiatus, I’m finally back behind the death decks with a playlist that has been one of the hardest to date for me to make my selections. While the likes of Venom Prison and Pupil Slicer are rightfully earning a lot of plaudits for their new material, I’ve focused mainly on the up and coming side of things, with a couple of exceptions. With that said, let’s get drinking the digital bar dry and into the music!

We start with a debut single, from Sheffield rockers Until 9 with their downbeat ballad ‘Tombstone’, a hook-riddled, rifftastic ripper that promises big things!

Black Rainbows have a live album coming out and ‘Supernova & Asteroid’ is a great example of just how well they craft their take on top quality space rock.

Danish quartet H.E.R.O. strive to ‘Lead The Blind’ with their latest hard rock anthem, with guest vocals from Philip Strand of Normandie combining to make a beautifully crafted harmony of vocals and music.

Stöner should not need too much introduction – half of Kyuss are always going to mean a stoner supergroup! Nick and Brant are celebrating their new album with ‘A Million Beers’ – luckily for that pun, it’s the first single from their sophomore album… and there’s a lengthy run of ÜK dates to come too!

London punk’n’rollers The Blue Carpet Band are bemoaning ‘The Slow Death Of Camden’ with their new uptempo single, fusing rock and roll with a fierce punk attitude.

Time for some Finnish industrial metal now with Ruoska further enhancing their burgeoning reputation with the release of single ‘Kade’. With an expansive chorus that combines melody, riffs and fist-pumping singalongs (at least I really want to, when I know the lyrics!), it’s a great introduction for anyone looking to expand their horizons with the experienced act.

Mystic Circle are announcing their comeback in glorious style with grandiose symphonic black metal single ‘Darkness In Flames’ – hailing Satan never felt so good!

Texan thrashers X.I.L. are real ‘Speedemons’ in their latest effort, with a track you could well imagine Lemmy and company growling out – full of frenetic riffing fun!

Some Scandanavian hardcore now, as Hammok merge what I could only describe as mixing Mr Bungle and melodic guitars into hardcore and coming out with a rather striking single, as you will soon be ‘Perfectly Aware’!

Petrol Girls have graced these pages before, with their heavy punk rock sound forming perfectly as they announce ‘Baby, I Had An Abortion’ in their latest track. Full of attitude and gritty punk, it’s a great addition to their already burgeoning reputation!

Sir Reg may be a new name to you, but they are royalty – ‘The Kings O Sweet Feck All’, to be clear. A strongly Celtic influenced punk effort with all the spirit of frontman Brendan’s hometown of Dublin shining through.

Thumper are fast approaching their debut album release, with their brand of noise pop coming in (very) loud and clear in ‘Overbite’. An act with clear influence from the likes of Sonic Youth, when creating this well, is one to definitely take notice of.

Puppy have been a personal favourite for a while now, and their heavy riffs combine exquisitely in ‘…And Watched It Glow’, further showcasing just why they are picking up such a fantastic reputation gig by gig, release by release.

Czech metallers Abie Falls are here to absolutely smash their way into your skull and linger in your head, just like the ‘Parasite’ this single describes. Crushing riffs, bellowing vocals and frenetic drumming combine for a hell of an introduction to the talented group.

Lzzy Hale is someone that should need no introduction, and ‘The Steeple’ is yet another shining example of both Lzzy’s personal talent as well as the band formed around her!

Void Chapter have created a rather stunning single in ‘Target Acquired’, combining a synth-prog metal approach with haunting vocals that both take lead and harmonise as fitting – a glorious introduction!

Slowing it down a bit, we have Alt-J and ‘The Actor’ in a rather haunting yet mind-warming modern take on an 80s synth style, full of melody and warmth.

Swedish psych-rockers Spiral Skies have created an absolutely perfect throwback to the 70s psych glory days when Jefferson Airplane and such reigned supreme. Gorgeous melodic psych drenched in ability.

Moving into our final few tracks and Port Noir are rightfully regarded highly in the psych world, combining alt-rock and psych-pop in equal measure to fantastic effect in ‘Sweet & Salt’.

Marillion are protesting against the ‘Murder Machines’ in their latest single, with yet another phenomenal melodic prog rock track from one of the best acts in the world at it.

To close out this edition, Pillow Queens are giving us their ‘Hearts & Minds’, with the Dublin group showing a serious continuation of the momentum they’ve built up with this harmony-drenched slab of alt-rock.

Well, that’s your fill for another session. Once again, you’ve drunk the pumps and the optics dry and exhausted our playlist… We’ll be back in two weeks’ time, fully reloaded and restocked and ready to once again bring you the best rawk ‘n’f’n roll in the Überverse. So, in the meantime all that remains for me to say is keep ‘er lit, keep ‘er between the hedges and keep on rockin’ with your favourite website \m/
