Chosen by Monk

My latest pick comes from Birmingham-based post-punk/noise rockers Mutes, who today are taking us deep into the dangerous and murky world of the ‘Televangelist’ with the second single to be lifted from their upcoming fourth studio album ‘…buried where you stand’, due for release on 17 May.

Giving us an insight into the lyrical meaning behind the song, Mutes founder and vocalist James states:

[It is the] theological projections of an irresolute agnostic; torn between clinging to the assuaging hand of statism and laying waste to internalized idolatry. Catholic guilt is one hell of a trip.

  • Mutes play The Chameleon in Nottingham next Friday (23 February).
