Curated by Monk
The summer may be dragging what’s left of its sorry ass to its inevitable conclusion, with the sun cream left to rot on the shelf for another year, but the temperature inside the Singles Club has always been HOT, as our latest opening proves with another batch of the catchiest earworms and hardest hitting ‘bangers to have come our way over the past couple of weeks… so, let’s stick the needle in thon there grooves and get on with the musical action, shall we?
Bird’s View ‘Came Along’ (Drakkar Entertainment)
These edgy German youngsters meld alt-punk, grunge and stoner vibes and are about to release their second album, of which this is the latest sample:
Bones UK ‘Knee Deep'(Sumerian Records)
Having previously featured as one of our ‘Daily Pick‘ selections, this London duo definitely aren’t going ‘Soft’ with their future-rock mélange of swaggering guitars, gritty electronics, and love-yourself / think-for-yourself lyrics, as exemplified by this latest cut from their forthcoming second album:
Call Me Amour ‘Bloom’ (Circular Wave Records)
This nu-metalcore quartet have teamed up with Bleed From Within’s Scott Kennedy for this darkly emotive latest taster of their upcoming new EP, which is due to be released ahead of the band’s first and only headlining show at the Camden Underworld at the end of next month:
Destroy Boys ‘You Hear Yes’ (Self-Released)
The Sacramento post-noise punks have teamed up with Mannequin Pussy and Scowl to once again bend just about every rule in the book to breaking point:
Diamante ‘All For The Glory’ (Sumerian Records)
This Californian songstress has always ploughed her own path, and continues to do so with her defiant third album, for which no release date has yet been confirmed but for which this is a very appealing and suitably fiery taster:
Drug Church ‘Chow’ (Pure Noise Records)
The agit-punk noiseniks serve up us a suitably loud but melodic second slice of pie from their upcoming new album, ‘Prude‘, due out at the beginning of October:
Every Hell ‘Bad Cop’ (Self-Released)
This new Brighton-based four-piece is made up of former members of Black Peaks, Broker and Memory Of Elephants and produce an expectedly raw-edged sound with full on, high intensity delivery, as epitomized on this this latest taster of their upcoming debut EP, which was recorded as a no edits, straight to tape experiment:
Giant Walker ‘Time To Waste’ (Church Road Records)
The Newcastle alternative proggies deliver another fuzzy, grungy earworm as the final taster from their upcoming album, which itself will worm itself into our ears around this time next month:
Go Betty Go ‘Party At Sea’ (Wiretap Records)
The pop punk troupers will be familiar to fans of the cult Netflix series ‘Cobra Kai’, as their songs featured on quite a few occasions. Now, they prepare for the release next month of their latest EP with this adrenaline-fuelled slice of energetic power pop:
Izzy Reign ‘Pandora’s Box’ (FiXT)
Melding metalcore and synthwave with alt-pop, Izzy not only crosses boundaries but crashes through the barriers between with them with her bold, borderline dichotic (nevermind psychotic) fusion of stability and chaos. Her debut album is already one of the most anticipated releases of next year, and this is further evidence as to why:
Mouth Culture ‘Dead In Love’ (InVogue Records)
The Leicester indie alt-pop punk trio round of a busy year of touring by showing no signs of slowing down with this energetic example of what they do best:
RedHook ‘Pyromaniac’ (Adventure Cat Records)
These Australian alt-rock shapeshifters continue to set the metalcore Überverse alight with this, their fourth single of the year, and look set to continue their momentum when they support Dream State this coming October and November:
RØRY ‘In The Bible’ (Self-Released)
Another of the hugely influential female artists stirring shit up on the scene at the moment by sharing her singularly declarative voice, RØRY celebrates her #BestBreakthroughArtist award at the recent #HeavyMusicAwards by reconciling her disdain of organized religion and her reverence for the faith that saved her in this, erm, singularly declarative piece of musical art:
Skegss ‘Out Of My Head’ (Loma Vista Recordings)
This Australian duo serve up a slice of jangly guitar pop optimism with the latest sample of their upcoming new album, ‘Pacific Highway Music‘, which is due to fill our ears in mid-October:
Spirit Mother ‘Emerald’ (Heavy Psych Sounds)
We can’t really let an edition of the Club go by without a contribution from our brothers at HPS, and they have once again delivered the goods with this self-described “bastardized folk tale” from these heavygaze heavyweights, who will be taking us further into their dank and dark sonic world with the release of their new album next month:
The Nightmares ‘Something In The Dark’ (Venn Records)
There may be nothing nightmarish about this Welsh combo, but their brand of electronica-infused noir pop definitely serves as the soundtrack to the darkest of dreams and will have you looking over your shoulder to see if there really is something lurking in the shadows…
The Sheepdogs ‘Take Me For A Ride’ (Right-On Records)
Despite hailing from Canada, these sunshine-obsessed good ol’ boys play the sort of mezcal-fuelled southern-inflected pop rock perfect for rockin’ the night away on a porch in the Bayou or a balcony overlooking the Baja. The band are currently celebrating their 20th anniversary and will take a ride (sic) back the ÜK for a run of at the end of November
The Willful Deaf ‘Chasing Demons’ (Self-Released)
Matthew John Watts, previously known to electronic music aficionados as Dogmixer and Debunkt, signals a significant departure from his previous explorations to move into the soundscapes of alternative psychedelic rock, of which this is the first sample (sic):
Thy Catafalque ‘A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek’ (Season Of Mist)
Tamás Kátai is preparing to take us the latest steps on his visionary journey through avant-garde metal soundscapes, taking us deeper and deeper into the dark night of his soul with his imminent 12th album, of which this is the title track:
Von Hertzen Brothers ‘Starlings’ (DoingBeingMusic)
The Finnish brothers are set to continue their communion with Mother Nature and all her glories with their thematic new album, ‘In Murmuration‘, which is both a sequel and a juxtaposition to previous opus ‘Red Alert In The Blue Forest‘, as they deliver a more optimistic but still heartfelt message to humanity:
Written By Wolves ‘The Lighthouse’ (Self-Released)
The sweeping, cinematic soundscapes produced by these five young prog rockers have made them one of the most exciting talents to come out of New Zealand in the past five years, and this title track to their upcoming new album further cements that reputation:
So, there you have it – another eclectic blend of the freshest, hottest sounds around at the moment… I think I need a lie down after that. No, I need a holiday – which is exactly what I am taking for the next week or so, so I’ll see y’all again in two weeks’ time for another action-packed opening of the Singles Club. Until then, keep ‘er lit, keep ‘er between the hedges and keep on (Über)rockin’ in the free world \m/
