Just before Christmas, I got to sit down with Ellen and Tom from Dead Space Chamber Music, a band I found only recently from their support slot with HackeDePiciotto. He had a great half hour chat with them both, discussing everything from their musical roots, where their name came from, how they would describe their sound, how working in a graveyard helps guitarist Tom create music and why they incorporate visual aspects into the live performances…
On choosing their style of sonic output…
“We’ve been creating with early music and traditional music and it’s something we did right from the off…..”
On creating music…
“We need to be able to look at each other and have a musical language that we’ve evolved over time!”
On their sound…
“It’s kind of an underworld, where Black Sabbath meets medieval music…via some experimental industrial…”
On the audio/visual side of their live performances…
“There’s something about people seeing you make these sounds, as well… the aspect of creating that shared space with the audience…”
On bringing objects to be seen alongside parts of their music…
“It’s a kind of visual language, to communicate something else about that song…”
