Delta Sleep/Real Terms – Haarlem, Patronaat – 10 April 2025

Delta Sleep play a huge role in how much Jase W fell in love with math and post rock bands, and even more so after they dropped their ‘Spring Island’ album back in 2021. That year earmarked a huge change in his music journey and saw ArcTanGent become a true favourite festival in the process due to how far down the rabbit hole of these styles he fell. He’s seen these guys do their thing quite a few times now so it was not likely he would pass off a chance to see them again and also get introduced to a band like Real Terms in the process.

Death Cult/Lili Refrain – Manchester, Albert Hall – 18 November 2023

Two gigs in successive days meat another jaunt over to Manchester for the big lad known as DJ Astrocreep, this time to the Albert Hall, to catch The Cult, touring as previous incarnation Death Cult and, by and large, playing venues and places they did on their inaugural Death Cult tour in 1983. While quite different musically to the previous night’s shenanigans, a night of rather fantastic post punk and rock was on the cards…

pg.lost/Astronoid – Manchester, FAC251 – 21 April 2023

On probably one of the busiest Fridays for big metal shows in Manchester, Jase W opted for the gentleman’s choice of seeing pg.lost along with Astronoid at FAC251. This is a venue our resident gigaholic had not visited for years The turnout early on this show did look a bit sparse though; well, they were up against some pretty big shows elsewhere such as Cannibal Corpse, Delain and Graphic Nature, so Manchester was pretty saturated for shows this particular night!

Shaam Larein – ‘Sticka En Kniv I Världen’ (Svart Records)

‘Sticka En Kniv I Världen’ is the second album from Swedish avant-garde auteur Shaam Larein. The promotional material summarizes the singer’s approach to music by declaring that “weird and wonderful doesn’t quite cover it – the experimental musical elements and alien-like vocals will guarantee to transport you to a world not of our own, unleashing a heady brew of nocturnal post-punk and avant-garde metal. Bona P sees if it lives up to the hype…

Ofdrykkja – ‘After The Storm’ (AOP Records)

Ofdrykkja are a neofolk/post rock three piece from Sweden. Let’s start by seeing what their PR blurb says about them: “It is no secret that the music of Ofdrykkja has never sounded quite the same. As the Swedish trio strive to keep evolving on a personal level, this is naturally reflected in their music, as well. While 2019’s preceding ‘Gryningsvisor’ was more of a traditional atmospheric/ambient black metal album, the aptly titled ‘After the Storm’ ventures away, off the beaten path, and proceeds to distance itself from some of the more traditional elements that are usually prominent in metal music.”

Kowa Axis – ‘Ones and Threes’ (Trepanation Recordings)

It’s not often that Jonny B is lost for words; in fact, everyone at ÜRHQ will confirm that he’s always got something to say. However, recently he found himself completely lost for words whenhe started listening to the concept piece from Kowa Axis, ‘Ones and Threes’. Naturally, as this is something a little on the quirky side, it fell to JB to get his teeth stuck into it to find out what lay within this little musical package…
