Springing the news upon fans, New Model Army, back in May, suddenly approached social media with an announcement. This being, the official statement of an upcoming album, ‘From Here’. Alongside this, the band wrote a message, explaining the album will be written and recorded in just two months and nine days in total. As well as describing the album to be different in a way, to any past material they have produced. It is fair to say that this news alone, injected excitement into fans. For those who are unaware, New Model Army are a five-piece rock/alternative band from Bradford. Their following is unique, a very close knit, dedicated group, being a mix of generations. It may be interesting to note that the title track ‘From Here’, is the last listed track, could this be an indicator that New Model Army have no intention of sitting back, but pushing themselves harder than ever before?
Two songs currently have been pre-released, these being ‘End Of Days’, and ‘Never Arriving’. Both of which have appeared to be a success among fans, securing the idea that the upcoming album tour will be one to remember. Live shows from NMA are very memorable, projecting explosive energy and intense atmosphere that will leave you with goosebumps. These two songs provide an insight into the feel, and style of the album, with this being said, I have no doubt in my mind that ‘From Here’ will be high rated among fans. As with every previous album, this one captures New Model Army’s recognisable sound to a T. Providing high lyrical merit, each song paints an individual, meaningful journey, or story for the listener to be encapsulated in.
At first, I was shocked at the length of the album, including 12 songs, some of which last up to over six minutes long. With this in mind, as well as the time period the whole album was created in, the levels of quality, technicality, and production, is outstanding. Not one song on the album lacks depth or passion. Having a goal like this can always be risky, as short cuts could be taken due to tight time schedules, but the forthcoming album clearly has not settled for anything less than the best it possibly can be.
‘From Here’, was recorded in (what could be regarded as the most beautiful studio in the world) a Norwegian island. Surrounded by picturesque landscapes, snow and water. This is heavily reflected by the atmosphere and lyrics, with a very relaxed feel, and many lyrics about nature and the four elements. The structure within many tracks begins slow, with an acoustic guitar style,in the middle, everything begins to slow down, halting to near silence, until everything kicks back in with a faster pace.
‘From Here’ is everything New Model Army represent, and are known for, mixed in with new elements, that demonstrate the talent of each member.
