Your new favorite alt-rock quartet, Jestr today release their debut album ‘The Dead & Riches’ – and it’s definitely no joke! Drawing on inspiration from the paranormal and mythology, these Louisiana rockers are the real deal. What started out as a solo project back in 2019 for Brett Bradley (vocals/guitar), Jestr quickly morphed into a full band sonic experience including Zack Guidry (rhythm guitar), Alex Miller (bass), and Austin Wood (drums/percussion). ‘The Dead & Riches’ is everything you want and more – so let’s dive right in!
The album starts off with a short melodic track called ‘Sonoma’, consisting of just guitar and vocals, which leads right into the Foo Fighter-esqe banger ‘Ghost of You’. Capturing the alt-rock vibe perfectly with driving percussion and chunky riffs, this is certainly a stand out song on the album. ‘Avenue of Giants’ delivers a catchy pop rock feel, while ‘Birth of a Charlatan’ provides a bit of dark humor through it’s lyrical storytelling. Each track stands strong on it’s own and gives me major early 2000s nostalgia in the best way possible.
‘The Man from Taured’ is another stand out track with its melodic vocals and soaring harmonies. The chorus is certainly a force to be reckoned with thanks to the larger-than-life guitars and percussion. ‘Scare You!’ and ‘Lush’ round out the album, which really showcases the talented vocals of Brett Bradley and the expert musicianship of rest of Jestr. ‘The Dead & Riches’ is truly a debut album that has it all, ranging from intimate vocals to heavy riffs and bombastic percussion. I know for a fact that if Jestr comes to New Jersey, I’ll be purchasing a ticket and standing right against the barricade to witness this incredible band in person!
The band’s Instagram states that this is “your dad’s new favorite band” – and, as a father, I can confirm, Jestr is easily my new favorite band!
