In the interest of full disclosure, I love Frozen Crown. They are one of my top modern power metal bands. So, the minute I heard they might be releasing a new album I immediately requested it. It can be a little nerve-racking when a band you love changes up their lineup, especially three all at once. I had to check it out to see if they would still live up to what I loved before and I was not disappointed at all. Sure, there is a definite change in the overall feel of the album -that is a given with that much of a change in creative talent – but I still love what they have created.
The musical style is more rooted in a more traditional power/heavy metal feeling than past albums dropping a lot of the symphonic influence that was present in past albums while I do find this unfortunate as I loved that touch of a symphonic influence mixed in the resulting album we have here feels more like a quintessential experience for the genre than it has in the past. There is a heavier feeling to the whole experience and a little bit of a darker tone to the whole experience. Every track has this great evolution and knows when to ramp up the tone or dial back to let the vocals cut through.
Speaking of the vocals, Giada is an absolute professional. She has so much power in her voice. There is so much talent and she uses it wonderfully to tell these stories with every track. I can’t think of any singer right now that I would put on the same level. I also think that Federico played more of a part in this album than he has in the past showing off what he is really capable of. He is a perfect contrast to Giada adding a wonderful level of depth to the overall experience.
Clearly, I loved this album. It is very hard for me to find fault. There is a fantastic amount of complexity to every track both musically and vocally making for a must-have experience. This album is a must-buy. You would be severely missing out without it. Go pick it up. Frozen Crown has yet to disappoint me and this one is no different. I look forward to everything they come out with. They are truly masters, and mistresses, of the genre, in my opinion.
