Tonight’s festivities take place at the legendary Ulster Hall in Belfast, which not only sees Fozzy headline, but also sees their front man, Chris Jericho celebrate his birthday.
First on support duties tonight are five piece Welsh melodic rockers Scarlet Rebels. Formed in 2018, the band found success with the release of their second album ‘See through Blue’, earlier this year, which achieved a spot in the ÜK top 40 album charts.
The band put on a great performance, though not to a huge crowd as the Ulster Hall hadn’t even quarter filled by this point. This didn’t seem to put the guys off as they played a great set, showing a lot of energy and enthusiasm. A band, in opinion, to definitely watch out for in the future.
Next on the line-up are metalcore legends Escape The Fate. The band have gone through a number of changes over its eighteen years, with drummer Robert Ortiz being the only original founding member still in the band.
This new incarnation of the band sound fresher than they ever have and from the moment they took to the stage you knew that they meant business. Their set which covered every era of the bands history was delivered with energy and a lot of tightness and was sure to keep newer fans and older emo fans alike, very happy indeed.
Finally on the bill was the main band that the people came to see, Fozzy. The band were making their second appearance in Belfast in a little under a year. Towards the end of last year they played the Limelight 1, but this time opted to perform their second show in the legendary Ulster Hall.
From the opening track ‘Sane’, you could instantly tell that the rockers meant serious business and delivered a show that was pure energy from start to finish. All members were firing on all cylinders and never let up the whole show, delivering great hard rock music with all of the rock star poses that go along with it.
Front man Chris Jericho was celebrating his 52nd birthday on the day and part of the way through the show a Black Velvet birthday cake was brought onstage to help him celebrate his big day.
Highlights of the show included ‘Do You Wanna Start A War’, which Jericho had a lot of fun with as he fires smoke over the crowd with a CO2 cannon. A rocking cover of the Frankie Goes To Hollywood hit ‘Relax’ was another highlight and one that the audience really got into. As well as that, I got to hear my personal favourite from the band, ‘Enemy’.
The guys would of course play their signature sing along crowd pleaser ‘Judas’, which by the time it was over; my voice was starting to become a little horse. The show finished with the classic AC/DC cover ‘Dirty Deeds’, which the band had some fun with and was received with a lot of enthusiasm from the people in attendance.
A fantastic show, with a great line-up and at such an iconic venue. I couldn’t think of a better way to have spent the evening.
