Mastiff – ‘Plague’ (APF Records)

Ghost’s 2018 album ‘Prequelle’ cast the narrative back to the Middle Ages, and to the ravages of the plague on Europe. Split/Cross – ‘Rise of Discontent’ (Self-Released)

When you start your record with a sample lifted directly from dystopian masterpiece Network, you set a tone before you’ve ever played a note. As that movie so famously says; “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not gonna take it anymore!” That’s pretty much exactly where Split/Cross are at on Rise of Discontent, less a disgruntled metallic response to the state of the world as it is a headlong dive into Napalm Death style political grindcore with a side helping of filthy, sludgy low-end.
