Heriot/Inhuman Nature – Manchester, Star & Garter – 11 May 2023

A stereotypical wet welcome for Heriot in Manchester, arriving to be greeted by a good old fashioned downpour but nothing to dampen the spirits of the band turning up to play a sold out show! Along for the stomp around the ÜK is hardcore thrash outfit, Inhuman Nature, who resident gigaholic Jase W caught earlier this year in Dead Institute means there’s a solid chance of his ears ringing well into the weekend.

MØL/Countless Skies – Manchester, Rebellion – 10 May 2023

For the first of a string of three gigs this week, Jase W was back in Rebellion to see Danish blackgazers MØL smash it up once again. One of the bands our resident gigaholic will never get tired of seeing and especially not with a headline set after their 2021 album, ‘Diorama’, more than likely making up a large chunk of tonight’s set. For this tour they’ve got Countless Skies who our man was seeing for the first time after listening to them a bunch over the past year or so, no local support for this stop though which is a bit of a shame…

Yes, it’s been the annual Metal 2 The Masses competition, in which the bossman has been very proud to serve as a judge for its first eight years… but, in 2023’s ninth iteration of the Über Kingdom’s premier battle of the bands contest, Monk had to take the very difficult decision to step down from my equally difficult role. Having said that, there was absolutely no fucking way, unless the planet imploded upon itself, he was going miss the grand finale, the ultimate fight to the death for that extremely precious slot at this summer’s bolshier-than-ever Bloodstock festival \m/

Sixties psych legend vs ’60s space rock overlords, it’s a night promising to be full of good old-fashioned fun as the mighty Hawkwind are supported by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. A little different from the Cannibal Corpse carnage DJ Astrocreep took in a mere week before in the same room. With two artists who have headlined shows years before the big lad was even conceived, a night of psychedelia and chilled rock awaited him..

Pop Evil/Call Me Amour – Manchester, Rebellion – 5 May 2023

After a last minute tour rescheduling, Pop Evil were finally in Manchester and Jase W was still able to make the date! So a swift return to one of his favourite venues in Manchester, Rebellion and despite the intermittent inclement weather, it’s turned out nicely to get our resident gigaholic into a sweaty darkened room to get his ears battered. Call Me Amour are in tow for this tour as support as well and looks like we’ve got two solid sets tonight to get those ears around!
