The Uber Rock Approved stampIt’s fast approaching our favourite time of the year (although many would argue its Halloween all year round here at Casa Über), and what better way to start the build-up/countdown than with a suitably kitsch but affectionately so tribute to some of the classic horror-themed movies that we rented from our local video store way back in the mists of time before streaming was even a wet dream?

Rod Usher, singer with the German gothic horror punk band, explained a bit more about the track:

[It] is inspired by the teen horror classics of the time – ‘Ghostbusters’, ‘Gremlins’, ‘Beetlejuice’, ‘Fright Night’, ‘House’ – and tells the story of a ghost that haunts an old VCR from a flea market and catapults its owner back to the 1980s. Of course, we had to use appropriate keyboards in the chorus – they would have suited bands like Europe or Journey well.

The accompanying video (directed by Mirko Witzki, known for his work with the likes of Emil Bulls, Caliban and Nachtblut) features comedy writer, podcaster, actor and musician Jan C. Müller as the horror buff who stumbles as a haunted hero straight into a wild, colorful 80s party – led, of course, by head ghost Rod Usher and his eerily charming troupe. But who knows: maybe it was all just a nightmare?
