Monk could talk about Northern Ireland’s bittersweet (and mostly more bitter than sweet) relationship with black metal; about how BM bands have, until relatively recently, struggled to emerge from the darkness of ignorance into the dim light of recognition; about the struggles its devotees have undergone while remaining true (or should that be trve?) to their beliefs, steadfast in their commitment to the purveyance of the dark art… But, he won’t. he will resist the temptation to digress and divert from the (left hand) path and instead dive straight in and talk about the sheer and utter towering majesty of this magnificent debut offering from semi-supergroup Domhain.

Gary Moore – ‘Back To The Blues’ (BMG)

In these days of the resurgence of vinyl in all its heavyweight, colour and splatter splendour, it’s sometimes easy to forget that back in the nineties and noughties, vinyl was considered such a thing of the past that there were huge numbers of major release albums that never got a vinyl release at all. Such was the case with Gary Moore’s 2001 blues rock classic ‘Back To The Blues’. Now for the first time ever, it finally gets a vinyl release as a heavyweight double album.

Despite the complete lack of trains, full coaches and the onset of a storm, there was no way DJ Astrocreep was turning down the chance to catch Geordie noise merchants PIGSx7 live in a favourite haunt of his, the O2 Ritz in Manchester. With support from Trans-Pennine cosmic drone act Bonnacons of Doom – whom he’d seen support PIGSX7 a few times before – and with punk rock act Lambrini Girls also supporting, the sold-out crowd was going to be going for it right through!
