It is very rarely that Monk is stuck for words, but he struggled for two days contemplating where to even begin introducing the spectacle that was the opening night of Queen’s return to Belfast on the opening night of this, their celebratory ‘Rhapsody 2022’ tour. And then it hit him: there is only one word to describe what he and DQ witnessed this past Friday night… and that is “spectacle”. Because, quite simply, that is what it was.

Not being totally content with having enough tinnitus for the last weekend in May, Jase W was back in Satan’s Hollow for one last gig… This time it was Scottish prog metal outfit Tiberius on tour with Azure and for the Manchester date, local acts Sertraline and Forager. Quite a significant variety of stuff on there, along with extremely tight changeover times between bands!

One of the last couple of gigs Jase W would see this month in the lead up to the festival season was a band that is almost single-handedly responsible for inspiring thousands of guitarists – Meshuggah. Suffice to say this would be a gathering of the more colourful metalheads with an insatiable thirst for odd time signatures and just outright balls to the wall heavy riffs.
