Chosen by Monk
My latest selection comes from Glasgow alt-rock noiseniks Dead Pony, who have us chasing ‘Rainbows’ with this live favourite, in turn culled from their forthcoming debut album, ‘Ignore This’.
[It] is a song about loving yourself, explains singer Anna Shields.
Growing up as a teenager, I always felt like a bit of an outcast and I never felt comfortable in my own skin. It’s only as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realised that being true to yourself is the most beautiful thing that you can be and that you don’t need to fit the mould to be worthy of loving who you are.
This song is for 13 year old Anna and all of the other people out there who haven’t yet realised that their differences are beautiful. Just remember, no matter how bleak things may seem, Rainbows always come and things always get better.
Talking about the album’s title, ‘Ignore This’ guitarist Blair Crichton told us:
As a band, we’ve experienced an awful lot of being ignored. We really don’t like that. So we set about making a debut LP so good that people had to pay attention. It’s a record that literally dares people to ‘Ignore THIS…’
Speaking about the band’s ethos and the trajectory of their career to date, Shields added:
“It’s about making music that appeals to people like us. A lot of things have changed for us over the last few years, but it’s arguably even more powerful seeing how we’ve stayed the same. That’s solidified my understanding of who our fans are: people who like good music, who aren’t in too much of a hurry to pigeonhole bands into categories, who don’t give a fuck about following trends. When I look into the crowd at our shows, I see people who remind me of myself as a teenager. Those are the people this music is for: the misfits who struggle to fit in anywhere else…
- ‘Ignore This‘ will be released via on LAB/Seeker Records on 5 April.
