Artwork for Irrational Pull by 156/SilencePittsburgh punishers 156/Silence are set to release their upcoming album, ‘Irrational Pull’ on 5 June. With it being the quartet’s only second album, it is rare to see a band evolve their sound so much, in just a few years. No longer being attached to a record label, they are bringing a crossover of metal and hardcore to a new level. Sewing an emotional, dissonant feel, with dynamic vocals from frontman Jack Murray with a haunting, twisted side. For fans of Code Orange, Knocked Loose and Vein.

Consisting of ten tracks, ‘Irrational Pull’ is something truly special. Stitching together a diverse vocal style, relentless riffs and an immense level of energy. The combination of very mellow, faded vocals, with gnarly growls, is something that really sets 156/Silence apart in a crowded market. Every single song brings an explosive atmospheric feel, that is sure to get fists swinging. There is always something going on, with some tracks ending with chaotic feedback.  This is an album you want to see performed live, there is no doubt it will bring it alive, and push it to new heights.

So far, two tracks have been released, with these being ‘Conflict of Interest’ and title track ‘Irrational Pull’. This drip-feeding approach displays a good reflection of what is to come with the following eight tracks. Despite each track being similar with its off-beat style, they are all so unique and don’t blend into one big pile of noise. If you like the releases so far, you must keep an eye out for when the album is dropped, it will not disappoint.

To really appreciate each layer of what is going on, ‘Irrational Pull’ in its entirety needs to be listened over a few times. This album is not for the faint-hearted, or for someone who wants a casual listen. From the core, it defines the word ‘chaos’. It has everything you could want from a band of this specific genre, and more, bringing melodic centres, down beat breakdowns, punishing riffs and forceful energy.

It is no mistake to say ‘Irrational Pull’ is one of the best album drops to come of 2020. 156/Silence are a force to be reckoned with, do not sleep on this release.
