Chosen by Monk
My latest selection marks something of a moment in time as it is the first new music in more than 30 years from these Scottish-born siblings and alt-rock progenitors.
Released to mark the 40th anniversary of their debut EP, it is the first track to be released from the forthcoming ‘Forces Of Evil’ EP, which, like it’s predecessor, ‘World Of Light’, will initially be available only as a four-track 12″ vinyl single (although a digital release will follow in November), via the band’s own newly created Darklands Recordings label – named after one of the tracks that appeared on the aforesaid 1984 EP).
Guitarist Jim Morris told me a bit more about the project and the return to the studio after so many years:
The process of creating this collection of songs has been incredibly unique and has prompted us to revisit some previously overlooked ideas. The track ‘Forces Of Evil’ had its origins way back in the start of our musical journey. It was a song that we had set aside because the lyrics seemed too naïve and simplistic; however fast forward four decades and we have a set of lyrics and sentiment that could not be more current and universally appropriate.
- ‘Forces Of Evil‘ will be released on 25 October.
- Balaam And The Angel tour in November:
