This Edinburgh songstress pulls deep from the heartstrings of the likes of Marianne Faithfull, Joni Mitchell and Stevie Nicks as reflects on how something as simple as a daily commute can have us looking at how compartmentalized our lives can perceived to be.
Brukes says of the story behind the song:
[It] was inspired by a solitary bus ride through the sleeping city. [It] captures a fleeting but powerful realization: behind every glowing window is a life that feels vast and important, yet from a distance, they all blur into the same repeating pattern. Rows of yellow-lit squares stretch endlessly into the dark, each one holding stories of joy, conflict, distraction, and longing.
[It] explores the strange duality of modern life: the desire to stand apart while unknowingly following the same rhythms as everyone else.
