The Uber Rock Approved stampSo, here we are, batterin’ and breezin’, poundin’ ‘n’ pummellin’, stompin’ ‘n’ strollin’ our way to the end of another busy rockin’ ‘n’ rollin’ month here in the Überverse… We’ve the death decks fully cranked up, and the amps set so loud that the neighbours are gonna enjoy some of the finest sounds around (whether they want to not!) – just as are you, our loyal readers… so, grab a chilled beer or three and settle into your favourite armchair and enjoy our latest selection of the hottest aural delights to have come our way over the past seven days:

Arion ‘Hurricane’ (RPM)

These Finnish melodic rockers are a bit like their Formula One drivers in believing in getting a head start, as this is the first taster of their upcoming fifth album, which isn’t actually due to be released until early next year! But, if this is anything by which to judge, well you know what they say about waiting for good things to come your way:

Chase Nova Band ‘Here Comes The Guillotine’ (Self-Released)

These politically-charged Dublin alt-rockers envisage an alternate musical  timeline where The Beatles visited the Middle East instead of India, adopted cocaine instead of LSD and strangely, were also Pearl Jam, as evinced on this, their second single and taster from their as-yet-untitled debut album:

Daedric ‘Iridescent Wings’ (FiXT)

The Swedish groove metallers display their more vulnerable side with this, the first in a series of acoustic-based reinterpretations of tracks from last year’s ‘As The Light Left’ album, with a full EP due to follow early in the summer:

Droptune ‘Louder Than War’ (Self-Released)

These Oirish crossover oiks have teamed up with veteran Dublin hip-hop artist Richard Lewis for this third single, which blends the raw protest energy of Rage Against the Machine and the industrial weight of Nine Inch Nails, fusing down-tuned riffs, punishing rhythms and razor-sharp lyricism into a sound that is both confrontational and deeply resonant:

Elder ‘Through Zero’ (Blues Funeral Recordings)

The progressive psych rockers describe this as the “perfect first impression” of their upcoming new album of the same name, which is due for release at the end of May – just in time for their appearance at the Download festival and subsequent trio of co-headline dates with Blood Incantation:

Hot Blooded Reptiles ‘Rock The Night Away’ (Self-Released)

This first sample of the new album from this Aberdeen NWoBHM power trio will have you doing exactly what its title says as they look set to follow in the footsteps of the likes of the Young brothers, Nazareth, Heavy Pettin’ and the lamented Estrella in showing how well the Scots deliver blue collar rock ‘n’f’n’ roll…

Linkwells ‘Can’t Chase Yesterday’ (Flip Flop Records)

These West Midlands-based indie/Britpop revivalists present us with a vibrant anthem about living in the moment, celebrating the power of embracing the present rather than dwelling on the past, encouraging us to let go of what’s gone, celebrate today, and welcome new experiences with optimism, openness, and a sense of adventure toward the opportunities the future holds:

Okkultist ‘Teeth Of The Hydra’ (Self-Released)

Exposing the darker underbelly of the otherwise sunny disposition of their native Portugal, proving it’s not all golf and fortified wine, these blackened death metallers have teamed up with Moonspell’s Fernando Rebeiro for their first new music since 2023’s cataclysmic ‘O.M.E.N.’ album:

Power Paladin ‘The Arcane Tower’ (ROAR)

The Icelandic symphonic power metallers celebrate the release of their second album, which sees them taking us ‘Beyond The Reach Of Entitlement’, with this collaboration with Majestica’s Tommy Johansson on another deep dive into their world of magic and mysticism:

Rare Breed ‘Freedom To Escape’ (Self-Released)

These north-eastern smog monsters combine nu-metal, metalcore, emo and grunge to address themes of regret, exhaustion and a desire to break beyond the repeating cycles of life, as well as exploring missed opportunities, the cost of perceived freedom and general dissatisfaction with life in a track that draws from the likes of Loathe, Superheaven and Sunny Day Real Estate:

The Cosmic Dead ‘Stronger’ (Heavy Psych Sounds)

As the United States Of Trumpton prepare to launch a fleeting visitation to the Moon, these Glaswegian space rockers are in turn getting ready to blast off on their tenth lunar mission, which will see them taking another inter-dimensional trip to ‘Beyond And Back’:

Thorne ‘Nightmare Dreaming’ (Self-Released)

The third single from the renascent alt-rock/post-hardcore quartet since returning from a period of hiatus in the latter half of last year fuses aggressive instrumentation with emotionally charged vocals, and is the latest precursor to a possible EP due for release in the not-too-distant future:

Tooth Gore ‘Song For The Birdman’ (Self-Released)

Despite opting for a name that could suggest your new favourite deathgrind band, this solo surf punk from the wild shores of Devon isn’t letting the sand nestle between his toes as he returns to the Club’s death decks for the first time in exactly a year with the first sample of his upcoming new EP, due just in time for what will probably laughingly pass for summer:
